Both nations then went on to play their first Test series later in the month. After South Africa completely dominated the first Test at East London, Bangladesh were left shell-shocked to suffer defeat by an innings and 104 runs. There was further affirmation of South African dominance during the second Test when South Africa won by an innings and 160 runs in Potchefstroom.
  • South Africa’s perfect performance at the 2004 ICC Champions Trophy in Edgbaston, Birmingham on September 12, 2004, dismissed Bangladesh for just 5 runs in 17.5 overs, losing only 1 wicket.  Prior, Bangladesh literally received a beating by South Africans after they batted first and were bowled out for only 93 in 31.3 overs, a proud day for the South African bowlers, and nobody would say differently.
  • Bangladesh made history by winning the first ever game against South Africa in the 2006-07 ICC World Cup on April 7, 2007, at the Providence Stadium, Guyana. The Bangla Tigers amassed a whopping total of 251/8 in their innings and won by 63 runs. Mohammad Ashraful was the standout performer scoring an astounding 87 from 83 deliveries.
  • Bangladesh played its first T20I match against South Africa on September 15, 2007, which was a part of the 2007 ICC World Twenty20 tournament hosted by South Africa. Bangladesh set South Africa a target of 145 to chase. South Africa chased this target easily, losing three wickets in the process.
  • At match 39 of the 2011 ICC World Cup, the Shere Bangla National Stadium was the setting for an edge-of-your-seat display by South Africa, who once again outshone the Bangladesh side. After winning the toss, South Africa elected to bat and went on to win in convincing style with a total of 284/8 after 50 overs. Faf du Plessis (52) and Jacques Kallis (69) were the only meaningful contributors to this score and led South Africa to an overwhelming victory by 206 runs.
